Healthy Apple & Pear Crumble

IMG_6231editLately, the weather has been cold here in the Netherlands. So I came to the conclusion that I should make something warm and sweet to enjoy during this season.  I thought of some ingredients that would taste great together and this healthy apple & pear crumble is the result. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.



    • 1 apple
    • 1 pear
    • 5 dates
    • 1/2 cup of water
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • some nuts (whole or crushed)


  • 3/8 to 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon


Pre-heat your oven at 175⁰C/ 350⁰F

First soak your dates in 1/2 a cup of water. While your dates are soaking, dice up 1/2 of the apple and 1 pear and leave it on the side. When your dates are ready, put them in your blender together with the water (they were soaking in) and the leftover apple. When you have a creamy paste, mix it together with the diced up apple and pear. If you want to make the crumble taste like real apple pie, you can add some nuts, cinnamon and other spices of your choice while mixing.

For the crumble on top, mash your banana and mix in the oatmeal and cinnamon. Now place the filling into a little ovenproof bowl and place the crumble on top.

Put the apple & pear crumble into your oven, for about 20- 25 min.

You can always change or add things to this recipe. You can chose to use just apples or only pears. Personally I would love to try it with cherries one day or add a big scoop of homemade banana nice cream on top :p.
